Quinquina Dubonnet, Jules Cheret - Poster
A wonderful example of "Affiche Artistique" advertising "Quinquina Dubonnet".
Created in the Belle Époque (Beautiful Era), a period in European history that began during the late 19th century and lasted until World War 1. The Belle Époque was considered a "golden age" and contrasted the horrors of World War 1.
Jules Cheret (1836 - 1932) has been called the father of the modern poster. He created dazzling posters and was the inventor of Colour Lithography which revolutionised printing and advertising. He produced huge, distinctive and extraordinary posters advertising Cabarets, Theatres, Novels, Beverages and Cosmetics. Jules Cheret struck an unequalled balance between flight of the imagination and reality of colours; he transformed Lithography into Fine Art.
