"Tango Tangles" Charlie Chaplin (1914) - Vintage Movie Poster

Tango Tangles was one of the few short films Charlie Chaplin made in the year he started acting in silent films, 1914.  What makes the film prominent is that he doesn’t perform as “The Little Tramp”, he has no moustache and no famous baggy pants. Chaplin’s character, a drunk who stumbles into a fancy dress party and begins to flirt and dance with an attractive girl he meets. Displeasing the band leader, who also likes her and a clarinet player in his band who is also infatuated with the pretty girl. The essence of the film simply involves a drunk, getting into a protracted fight until all are exhausted and fall over.

Tango Tangles featured three stars of the day: Fatty Arbuckle had been in films since 1909 and Ford Sterling since 1911, Charlie Chaplin compared to them, was the novice even though he was top billed.

Tango Tangles is where everything started for Chaplin and the film gives a peep into the making of a true comedy legend.
