Wanted by the US Army - Vintage WW1 Recruitment Poster
“You are wanted by the U.S. Army.....
660 Market St. San Francisco or any Army Recruiting Station”
This magnificent U.S. Army recruiting poster depicts an officer, General John J. Pershing, mounted on a horse and pointing towards the observer.
Published between 1915 and 1918 in San Francisco Schmidt Litho.
General John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing (1860 –1948) was a senior United States Army officer, most famous as the commander of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) on the Western Front in World War I, 1917–18. In May 1917 President Woodrow Wilson and Secretary of War, Newton Baker chose Pershing to command the American Expeditionary Force going to Europe in support of the Allies.
In 1931 he published a two volume work entitled ”My Experiences in the World War”, which earned a Pulitzer Prize (1932). He died in Washington, D.C., on July 15, 1948 and beyond doubt will be remembered as one of the most honoured soldiers in American history.
