The Narcoti Chemical Co., Springfield, Massachusetts, contracted Will Bradley to produce this wonderful Advertising Poster announcing a cure for the tobacco habit. A knight on horseback about to lance a devil tobacco plant.
William Henry Bradley was an American Art Nouveau illustrator and artist. He was the highest paid American artist of the early 20th century and dubbed the "Dean of American Designers" by The Saturday Evening Post.
He was recognised the leading illustrator and poster designer an artistic style considered a branch of Art Nouveau, heavily influenced from the ‘Arts and Crafts Movement and Japanese block printing.
Bradley is credited with the popular the two dimensional poster style in the United States. His artwork was often judge against the work of Aubrey Beardsley, some reviewers dismissed him as merely “The American Beardsley.” Obviously some critics didn’t take into account the fact that Bradley was a a well known, established artist before Beardsley’s designs became popular in England in 1894.
