Rome par la voie du Mont-Cenis - Vintage Travel Poster

A stunning Vintage Rail Travel Poster created by French Artist Geo Dorival in 1879, depicting a breathtaking image of the Roman Forum at dawn.

Railway construction began in France during the 19th century, mainly short lines for mines. The building of the main French railway system did not begin until after 1842.

In 1814, the French engineer Pierre Michel Moisson-Desroches proposed to Emperor Napoleon the construction of seven national railways from Paris, in order to provide "short distances into the Empire".
