Mates in a Model-T Ford - Australian Poster
Aussie mates riding in a Model T Ford, Double Island Point.
A photograph from 1931. Friends at the beach sitting behind the wheel of the Ford is the owner, Henry Mallett. Pictured from left are: Joe Hooper, Henry Mallett, V. Ross, B. H. Campbell and Naher Buttress.
Double Island Point is a coastal headland in Queensland, Australia. It’s a headland north of Noosa and is within the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park, at the southern end of Wide Bay.
Captain Cook carefully recorded his observations in his journal and on 19 May 1770, he named Double Island Point, “on account of its figure” and he recorded:
“The land within this Point itself is of moderate and pretty equal height, but the Point itself is of such an unequal height that it looks like two small islands lying under the land; it likewise may be known by the white cliffs of the north side of it. Here the land trends to the north-west and forms a large open bay.”
There are many stunning sights along the 60 kilometre beach drive between Tewantin and Rainbow including the heritage listed lighthouse and the coloured sands of Rainbow Beach. Permits are required if camping.
