The Original artwork for the Screen Printed Poster was created by the legendary Shepard Fairey in 2007.
The poster has been created from a photograph taken in taken in 2008 of a long gone Obey mural on the of Corner of Carlton St & Somerville Ave., Somerville, MA, USA
Power and Equality is a powerfully significant Poster, the artist illustrates the black woman of the 1960’s equal rights era, magnificent wearing her "afro" and psychedelic jewellery. Beautiful, strong and proud, she elevates her eyes to a future that holds the promise of equality, self-respect and emancipation.
On October 13, 1970, Angela Davis was arrested in New York City by FBI agents. She soon became a global icon suggesting freedom, resilience, and the struggle for equality. Her image was used to illustrate many causes that sometimes had little to do with racial discrimination or the American Civil Rights movement.
Today Angela Davis is an activist, scholar and writer who advocates for the oppressed, she's authored several books, including Women, Culture & Politics.
